About The Stable

Facilities at The Stable

The Stable is approximately 300 sq ft or 30 sq m in size and comprises:

A kitchen area with dishwasher, microwave oven, ceramic hob, fan oven and fridge with small freezer compartment.

A lounge / dining area with a small table and two dining chairs, a comfortable settee and footstool, a TV with DVD player and Log burner.

A bedroom with a 5″ bed and drawered bedside cabinets. There is also a cupboard with hanging space.

A WC / shower room equipped with a power shower with drench head.

Hot water is provided by electric immersion heater and there are electric heaters in the lounge and bedroom along with a heated towel rail in the shower room.

Free WiFi and the first basket of logs are provided.

Towels are also provided.

There is a small gravelled area directly outside The Stable with a small table and chairs, and a barbeque. Also on-site, but a short 25m walk away from the stable is a sunny seating / picnic area with lovely views along the scarp of the Blackdown Hills.

There is ample off road parking on site.

Places to Visit

There’s no shortage of places to visit – but here’s a few ideas:

As well as being situated within the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), the Quantock Hills AONB and Exmoor National Park are also nearby (and can be seen from The Stable).

The small coastal towns along the Dorset, South Somerset and Devon coast are all lovely. We particularly enjoy Lyme Regis for fish & chips on The Cobb and fossil hunting on the World Heritage Jurassic Coast.

Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton

Haynes Motor Museum at Sparkford

The Museum of Somerset in Taunton (great..and free!)

Sheppys Cider – cider tours and tasting just down the road on the A38 towards Taunton.

Hestercombe House near Taunton has stunning gardens…and a nice cafe.

Eating and Drinking

There are lots of great places to eat out around Wellington and Taunton.

Here are links to some of our favourites:

A great place for lunch is Silvers Pantry, just north of Taunton. We always book in advance because it’s deservedly popular.

The food and cakes at Rumwell Farm Shop are very good.

If you prefer something a little more cosmopolitan – try the Apple Bay Bar and Restaurant at Sheppy’s Cider.

The food is very good (especially the cream teas with fresh strawberries and proper leaf tea in a pot) at the Daisy Cottage Tea Rooms in Bishops Lydeard.

They serve excellent food and Sunday Lunches down the road at The White Horse in Bradford on Tone.

If you fancy something a bit special (and if you can get a table – they are normally very busy – so booking early is recommended) – try Augustus in Taunton.

If you feel like stretching your legs up the hill, then the Half Moon at Clayhidon is good, with a nice garden overlooking the Culm valley.

Also great for more up-market pub food is The Lamb and Flag at Blagdon Hill – it’s a good walk, but you’ll have an appetite (and a thirst) when you arrive!

If you’re in Lyme Regis and don’t fancy fish and chips – try The Bakehouse or the  The Harbour Inn.
